4-digit Number Lock

Previously, we modelled and simulated the working of a 4-digit number lock. In this assignment, we perform structural and functional analysis of the components. We also list out the disadvantages. While designing a product, we should also look at all possible failure modes and analyse them. This is necessary to ensure structure Mitigation for Risk reduction. This is based on either failure (mode) effect severity reduction or based on lowering the probability of failure or both. We also perform a few functional, design and process analysis in potential failure modes. We performed Finite element analysis for a few critical failure conditions to analyse the stress distribution and the factor of safety under extreme loading conditions. From this we determined the critical points of failure for the component. In order to simulate some physical conditions in the Finite Element Method (FEM), we create a mesh. The mesh essentially splits the product domain into a discrete number of elements. Analysis is carried out for these discrete elements to obtain solutions.
